What is PDF metadata?
+
Details stored inside a file that don’t appear on its pages, such as who made it, which software it came from and when it was last changed.
Is my file uploaded?
+
Not with the free tools: your PDF is checked and cleaned in your browser, so it stays on your device. Only the paid Clean & Certify tool uploads your file.
What does Verify Metadata check?
+
A file’s title, author, software, dates and page count, how many times it was saved, whether it holds signature data, and whether its XMP data agrees. It doesn’t confirm that a signature is valid.
What does the clean copy remove?
+
Author, company, software and date details, XMP data, comments and review marks, attachments, earlier versions, hidden data in photos and digital signature data. The title stays, and so do typed form text and stamps.
Does a highlighted result mean something’s wrong?
+
No. A highlight means it’s worth a second look. Ordinary edits can change a file’s dates or add a saved version.
Why won’t my PDF open?
+
Damaged and password-protected files can’t be read. If yours has a password, remove it and attach the file again.
Can I edit metadata or choose what’s removed?
+
Yes. Metadata Editor changes a file’s title, author, subject and keywords. Metadata Remover lets you choose what to strip. Both are in the Tools menu, and both save a new copy in your browser.
What else can it do?
+
Merge, split and rotate PDFs, delete or reorder pages, add page numbers or a watermark, pull out a file’s text, and convert between PDFs and images. They’re all in the Tools menu and run in your browser.
Is it free?
+
Yes. Every tool is free except Clean & Certify, which strips everything on our server and gives you a certificate. You pay for that per file, at checkout. There’s no subscription.
Can I change a PDF’s dates?
+
No. Dates can’t be edited here. Metadata Editor sets the modified date to the real time of your change, and a clean copy removes dates altogether.
